The Sekere Dress is inspired by the traditional Yoruba percussion instrument of the same name. An object deeply tied to rhythm, movement, ceremony, and collective expression within Yoruba culture. Through its elongated silhouette, intentional cut-outs, and hand-applied embellishments reminiscent of the beaded netting wrapped around the Sekere instrument, the piece explores the relationship between sound, body and adornment. The Sekere dress reflects the energy of Lagos. Expressive, layered, and unapologetically bold.
